I’ve given this away as a gift and made it 3 times for my own family. It is one of those recipes that I know I will be in the family for a very long time–it is SOOO good.
It is quick, it uses ingredients we usually have on hand, and it tastes WAY better than store bought chocolate sauce. When I served it to my husband, he just kept grunting and saying “MMM”& “YUM” as he scraped his bowl clean.
I’m surprised he didn’t get his face in it and lick it clean! Yes, it is that good.
Here is the recipe, it is from recipebzaar.com. It was recommended by another blog, but I can’t remember which one, which I’m feeling pretty bad about because they deserve a big thanks from me!
Lee Lee’s Famous Chocolate Sauce For Ice Cream
2 min/1 minute prep time
Serves 4-6
1/2 cup sugar (I use whole cane sugar -rapadura)
2 Tablespoon Cocoa
1/8 tsp Salt
1 1/2-2 Tablespoon Butter
1/4 cup water (more or less, as needed to make a stir-able consistency)
1/4 tsp vanilla extract (can’t beat 100% pure vanilla extract!)
1. Combine sugar, cocoa, and salt in a small saucepan.
2. Add enough water to make stir-able consistency.
3. Add butter to cocoa mixture.
4. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly.
5. Allow to boil for 1 minute, stirring.
6. Remove from heat.
7. Add vanilla.
8. Serve warm over ice cream.

December 17, 2014 at 7:20 pmI realize this was posted many years ago, but I am wondering what I did wrong when I made this. It came out very grainy, like there was too much sugar. Is it suppose to be grainy or smooth?

November 23, 2013 at 1:12 amMade this today. It is delicious! My other chocolate sauce recipe hardens right away (corn syrup I am guessing). My first batch was runny and I didn’t use the full 1/4 of water, my second batch was much better after only using a couple of TBSP of water.
I have it in the frig and I am hoping I can just pop it in the microwave to heat it up when guests arrive. YUMMY!

May 25, 2012 at 11:20 pmThanks so much for this recipe! I see you posted it quite a while ago, but I am just finding it. I made it w/ coconut oil. Tastes great! I have only just made it, so don’t know how it will handle the refrigerator. (Does the coconut oil solidify too much?) But, I don’t think any of this will make it to the refrigerator, so I won’t know that this time! 🙂

July 19, 2011 at 5:41 pmYes, this needs refrigerated. If you want dairy free, coconut oil would be great in this, I think! I will try that version and let you all know!

July 19, 2011 at 3:46 pmLooks delish! I’m allergic to dairy so I might try this with oil instead….. thanks for the printer tip in the comments!

May 19, 2010 at 2:33 pmOo. Yum! Our family of chocoholics who prefer to eat healthy, but cannot resist chocolate will have to try this. It will be cheaper than buying the organic stuff I sometimes buy and looks so easy. Thank you!
And a random question – how did you set up your printer friendly button at the bottom of your blog posts? I love that! To print this out I did not need to cut and paste… Please let me know how you did it…
